    Default Swan T200a + T120

Has anyone considered creating a 4.1 system by pairing the T200a (for
the front speakers) with the T120 (for the sub and rear speakers)? Would the T120 subwoofer be large enough for such a combination, or would you be better off going with the Sub200 and some other Swan speaker combo for the rear speakers? Can the T120 satellites be purchased separately? Just wondering...

Hi John, personally I'd recommend something a little different but still using the same models you mention: I'd go with a T200/Sub200 front setup and a T120 rear setup. In this way the T120's active woofer would allow you to run "large" speaker rear effects speakers and better fill in the room with bass. You didn't say what sort of electronics you were using but if this is possible, it may be worth looking into. No, the T120 satellites come as part of the set and aren't (yet) offered separately.

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. I have read through a lot of the posts in this forum (specifically those with sokukodo) and have a better idea now of your products. In fact, I have placed an order for the T200a speakers. My computer is an Apple G5 Power Mac with a 20" Apple Display. Basically I was looking for some sort of speakers that were better than the plastic junk that is available for use with computers. I started looking at studio monitors, and came across a review of the Swan M200 vs. the Edirol MA-10D on hometheaterhifi.com. That was the first I had heard of Swans. Researching them led me to your website. At first I thought I wanted to set up some sort of surround system, but I had to ask myself how much would I really use such a system. Mostly I would like to listen to music while I work on my computer. I play some computer games, but can't see myself watching many movies on my computer since I have a separate home theater system elsewhere in the house. Therefore, the reality is that I don't really need a surround setup for my computer. So I purchased the T200a's. From your discussion it sounds as though I may not even need a subwoofer with these speakers, but it would be easy to add one in the future. Perhaps a Sub200, or a better subwoofer if you had one in mind. Now I suppose that if I did ever decide to add rear speakers I could use the T120 speakers in the rear (I assume they need the subwoofer as their power source?). A front center speaker is problematic for me because I'm not sure where I could actually put it; it would probably have to go on the wall behind my monitor. For a surround system I would probably use the M-audio Revolution 7.1 card. I do plan to purchase a Griffin Technology PowerMate to use for volume control. Anyway that is my story. I can't wait to try out the T200a's--bring em on!

Let's say I buy the T200 set with no subwoofer and then decide to add one later. What kind of subwoofer can I use?

I keep running into the issue of cabling and connectors. So I'm assuming that the T200s have standard mini-plugs that connect to the sound card. This would seem to limit my options of what subwoofer I could add later. As I understand it, most subwoofers use tinned wire connectors.

    Any help?

I was reading the article at http://www.theaudioinsider.com/forum...2d986cde8e22d7 and am now more confused about connecting the speakers to my sound card.

Do the Swans only have analog connectors? I don't plan on using a receiver between the speakers and computer, so I'd like to use a digital connection (I've read that computers can add a lot of static on their analog out connectors). I guess that would require a DAC in the speakers. Is an external DAC a better option to prevent distortion from the sound card's analog out connectors?

The Swan multimedia systems are analog-only. Personally, I've not had any issues with my Analog Devices on-board sound "card" but lesser analog-output systems may not have the AD's fidelity...
