The second-generation personal loudspeaker phenomenon is here. The Swan M200MkII is an upgraded version of the Swan M200 that took desktops by storm the world over. It comes with superior on-board electronics and bigger amplifiers that raise compact active loudspeaker value to a new level.

The original Swan M200 was the first studio monitor-class loudspeaker with the multimedia-class price. Hundreds of thousands of these little wonders proved what happens when a pair of great drivers and tuned enclosures meet a capable amplifier and the whole package connects to the PC, the CD player, or the personal music device. Anywhere you've got a signal source, the M200 made real music -- this is not a "multimedia" speaker.

For sparking, extended highs, the M200MkII uses 25mm soft dome tweeters. Shielded 5.25" poly-cone midwoofers contribute solid bass and low-distortion midrange

A massive torroidal transformer powers the M200MkII's onboard amplifiers

The new M200MkII restarts the M200 craze. As great as the original M200 was, it's even better with new, more powerful onboard electronics with better fidelity and "audiophile approved" components. As always, solid, double-thickness cabinetry means well-defined sound and lasting value.

Swan Active Desktop speaker technology

From the entry-level M10 to the top T200b studio monitor, the Swan name has been associated with top desktop performance, while The Audio Insider is known for providing great sound with Internet-direct value. Every Swan Active Desktop loudspeaker system incorporates the highest grade components, design, and value in their category. Count on Swan for a number of important design features that all add up to a superior listening experience...for less!

Substantial size Acoustical physics simply state that a larger speaker has better efficiency and bass response. Dollar for dollar, Swan Active Desktop speakers are substantial, solid designs - check dimensions and weights to see just how much speaker your money buys.

Tweeters Regardless of price, all multi-way Swan Active Desktop speakers use high performance soft dome tweeters with Neodymium motors. The top T200b employs 28mm Danish-style tweeters with German-made silk domes, while the M200 series models and D1080MkII08 feature 25mm soft fabric tweeters. Even the economical M10 has 20mm soft dome tweeters. Every Swan speaker in the multi-way category shares high frequency treble performance with Swan's home theater speaker offerings.

Midbass / Woofers Excluding the Swan M10 and all fullrange models such as the H2, all Swan Active Desktop loudspeakers use beefy 5.25" woofers -unlike competitors, Swan doesn't use 3", 4", or even 4.5" "woofers" in anything except the very smallest models. Combined with each multi-way model's larger size, you get deep, low-distortion bass, while excellent sensitivity means Swan can employ higher quality, conservatively rated internal amplifiers.

Amplification Swan uses very high quality amplifiers and on-board electronics to deliver the clean, clear, musical sound Swan owners have come to depend on. Swan is constantly refining their electronics sets so many models are in their second or even third generation of electronics sets. See individual product pages in this section for more information and photographs.

Cabinets Most of the models in the Swan Active Desktop class use substantial enclosures weighing much more than anything in their price class. The M200 series are double-side wall construction, while the top T200b uses a mill-cut aluminum baffle overlay on top of polished black lacquer. The M200MkIII even includes milled laminate side planks for a look and value unique in its class.

Exceptional buying power and a fifteen year relationship with Swan gives The Audio Insider an advantage we pass on to our customers every day of the week. We're proud to provide studio monitor-grade Swan products, Internet-direct, to enhance your desktop listening experience.

Don Lindich Reviews the Swan M200MkII

Don Lindich has kind words for the Swan M200MkII:

“I was expecting something good, but they exceeded my expectations. Midrange detail was extraordinary. I listened to Broon’s Bane from Rush Exit: Stage Left from my iPod and the guitar sounded full, rich and natural, with every pluck of the string rendered gloriously, every resonance finding its way to your ears. [...]

“…the M200 MKII’s slanted cabinet design does its job to enhance stereo imaging as I experienced a precise, holographic soundstage that seemed like a 1/50th scale version of my Ohm Walsh 5000 speakers, presented in front of me on my desk instead of filling my room. At close range with the volume set lower due to my proximity to the speakers, they sounded even more natural and effortless than they did when I first fired them up as whole-room speakers. [...]

“The beauty of the M200 MKII is they work so well in so many ways. With their excellent sound, built-in power and the common RCA connection you can use them with lots of different components. I hooked them up to an iPod in a spare bedroom in my home, placed them about 6 feet apart and listened to them from about ten feet away. They sounded like a pair of fine quality bookshelf speakers hooked up to a clean-sounding receiver. [...]

“Connect a DVD player or CD player to the RCA inputs and you have a stereo with high-end sound, perfect for an office, a dorm room, bedroom, a garage, anywhere you may want to enjoy good sound. You could even connect them to the output of a phono preamp and use them with a turntable. Just be sure to use a long RCA cable and locate the turntable some distance from the speakers. [...]

“With the M200 MKII’s fine sound quality, even if they didn’t have built-in amplification they would be a bargain at the price. Given they are essentially an audio system out of the box, the value equation becomes extremely compelling.”

Very high quality throughout. I've purchased two sets of these so far, and like them very much. I'll soon be getting more. If there is a better product out there for the same money, I don't know what it is!..

These are great speakers for the price. Took exactly a week to get them and after a couple of weeks of use I am very happy with them. Initially I was going to use them with my computer... but they are too big for my computer desk. So I moved them to the bedroom and am very pleased. I hooked up my ipod and just love listening to music on these! I have also used them with a temporary bedroom tv and they do their job just fine. Much better then tv speakers and most computer speakers. I am comparing these to my computer's JBL - Spot 2.1 Speaker System ($200) and the Swans blow them away with a sound that is sweeter, room filling without sounding harsh and less fatiguing. The Good: They sound good! Clear vocals, good bass. Great price too. Don't confine them to be used just as computer speakers... they are perfect for other places like the bedroom or reading room. The Bad: I think they are too big for most desks. No instructions in box. The Ugly: The grills don't seem to compliment their overall nice design. They are just ugly grills (funny how there are no pictures of these speakers with grills on!)..

When you get these speakers you won't believe they are a desktop solution. The clarity of the sound is outstanding. They pack a punch as they put the music out. They look as beautiful on the desktop as they sound. I had been looking at the typical desktop solutions to replace a 5.1 logitech system that I could no longer use on my Mac. I had looked at the Bose and other systems and pretty much bought these without hearing them and I am glad I did. Customer service is excellent and the shipping is lightning fast. Don't hesitate to get these speakers if you can afford them. Highly Recommended...
