Solid computer-milled natural hardwood side panels accent the heavy matte black cabinet, fitted out with a solid billet of milled, anodized aluminum into which is set the M3's radical planar-magnetic tweeter and 50mm soft dome midrange. These two drivers are responsible for frequencies above about 1,000Hz, and combined have about eight times the radiating area as a conventional one-inch dome. Dynamic headroom is increased by roughly this factor, and distortion is proportionately reduced.
From a technological standpoint, perhaps most surprising about the M3 is the purpose-built 6.5" high performance woofer, one especially developed just for the M3 (and larger M6 tower). This driver is unavailable anywhere else in the world, and was the result of a dedicated design effort just for the M-series. Swan is naturally reluctant to share details of this special driver, but listeners have consistently found it head and shoulders above virtually anything in its class. The M3's planar "ribbon" tweeter has infinitesimal mass and lightning fast response to 30,000 Hz. Powerful Neodymium magnets drive the tweeter's entire surface uniformly, reducing distortion and aiding very high frequency detail.
The high power 50mm dome midrange goes an octave lower than a conventional 1" dome, and lends exceptional articulation and broad dispersion. As the result, the M3 has shocking realism.
The M3's proprietary midwoofer was developed just to compliment the midrange and tweeter. This 6.5" / 165mm driver sports a machined aluminum frame, Kevlar cone, and alloy phase plug.
