Next-generation looks and performance from Swan's most affordable 2.0 system

Deriving its clean style and high value from Swan's proven models D1010MkII08 and D1080MkII08, the new fourth generation D1010 IV adds even more performance to Swan's newest and most affordable 2.0 channel desktop format. New and exclusively at The Audio Insider, the D1010 IV pushes performance desktop audio to a new low price.

Compact, easy to setup and use, and sounds great

Like the larger D1080MkII08, the Swan D1010 IV is a stereo 2.0 system with one active speaker containing both channels of stereo amplification and a slave speaker connected by a length of cable. Stereo line-level inputs connect the master speaker to any signal source from portable digital music source to gaming system to PC to CD or DVD player. The D1010 IV uses genuine 20mm soft dome tweeters for the fabulous high frequency performance Swan is known for, and includes 4" long-throw midwoofers with oversized shielded motors and critically-damped paper-hybrid cones for excellent midbass.

Full-featured and powerful

Volume, bass, and treble controls control level and tonal balance, and the system powers up with a simple linecord. Conservatively-rated internal "gainclone"-style chipset amplification has superior dynamic range, bandwidth, and musicality, and low distortion, high definition drivers means that the D1010 IV doesn't sound like any other $150 "multimedia" speaker. Hookup cables are included.

True 20mm / 3/4" soft dome tweeters for best sound

105mm / 4" midwoofers for excellent midrange and midbass performance

The D1010 IV is the latest in this popular series of Swan high value active desktop speakers. It's finished in black PVC over real wood construction and features a slot-loaded rear bass reflex port for surprisingly deep and powerful bass.

At well under $150 the pair, the D1010 IV is a huge value for enthusiasts wanting something dramatically better than usual PC sound but don't want to spend more. Drop a pair on your desktop and really enjoy the music.

Swan Active Desktop speaker technology

From the entry-level M10 to the top T200b studio monitor, the Swan name has been associated with top audio performance for desktop or studio, while The Audio Insider is known for providing great sound with Internet-direct value. Every Swan Active Desktop loudspeaker system incorporates the highest grade components, design, and value in their category. Count on Swan for a number of important design features that all add up to a superior listening experience...for less!

Substantial size

Acoustical physics simply state that a larger speaker has better efficiency and bass response. Dollar for dollar, Swan Active Desktop speakers are substantial, solid designs - check dimensions and weights to see just how much speaker your money buys...and then compare to anything on the market.

Regardless of price, all multi-way Swan Active Desktop speakers use high performance soft dome tweeters with Neodymium motors. The top T200b employs 28mm Danish-style tweeters with German-made silk domes, while the M200 series models and D1080 series models feature 25mm soft fabric tweeters. Even the economical M10 and D1010IV have 20mm soft dome tweeters. Every Swan speaker in the multi-way category shares similar high frequency treble performance to Swan's Diva home theater speaker offerings.

Midbass / Woofers

Excluding the Swan M10, D1010IV and all fullrange models such as the H2, nearly all Swan Active Desktop loudspeakers use beefy 5.25" woofers - unlike competitors, Swan doesn't use 3", 4", or even 4.5" "woofers" in anything except the very smallest models or in satellite speakers supported by bass systems. Combined with each multi-way model's larger size, you get deep, low-distortion bass, while the excellent sensitivity of a larger system means Swan can employ higher quality, conservatively rated internal amplifiers.

Swan uses very high quality amplifiers and on-board electronics to deliver the clean, clear, musical sound Swan owners have come to depend on. Remarkably, Swan has included renowned audiophile-grade "gainclone" chipset amplification in its powered models, a technology known around the world for some of the most transparent, musically-authentic sound possible ... even in the high end of premium performance home audio amplifiers. Swan is constantly refining their electronics sets so many models are in their second, third, or even fourth generation. See individual product pages in this section for more information and photographs.

Most of the models in the Swan Active Desktop class use substantial enclosures weighing much more than anything in their price class. The M200 series are double-side wall construction, while the top T200b uses a mill-cut aluminum baffle overlay on top of polished black lacquer. The M200MkIII even includes solid milled laminate side planks for a look and value unique in its class.

2 years later and these "budget" $130 speakers are still going strong. Quite amazing sound quality, tiers above anything else in this price range.

For a few months I had been searching for a pair of good speakers for my computer. I found a review about Swan Speakers. I was not familiar with Swan. I did some research and was impressed. I ordered the Swan D1010 IV. I really did not know what to expect. When they arrived I was immediately impressed with the packaging. Each speaker came in a cloth bag and a pair of white gloves. Then I set them up which was very easy! Then I tested them with some music. I am a lover of classical music. I put on Brahms symphony no. 1. When it came on I almost fell out of my chair. WOW!!! Excellent balance. You can hear every part and every instrument. These speakers are well worth the money. My brother heard them and he too was blown away. He will, with out a doubt, buy a pair of Swan speakers. When I need another pair of speakers it will be Swan!

Ordering process - Very easy
Shipping - Arrived in a week. Indirect signature required.
Package - The original box was placed within a packing box. Inside, there was Styrofoam material encasing the speakers. Cables and cloth gloves were provided
Set-up - Had to connect the two speakers with the provided cable, then connect the active speaker with the 3.5 mm jack of the PC, and then the power cable. Quite easy.
Sound quality - For someone stepping up from PC speakers, this was quite different and musical. Loud enough for my room (24' x 13.5') at 50% volume.

I was totally surprised to hear the sound coming from these small desktop speakers. They breally sound so much bigger than their size would dictate. My wife is so thrilled with these speakers, the difference from her regular computer speakers to the Swans was night and day. Clear, clean and precise imaging, I placed them on stands which I built to bring the tweeters at ear level and they really shined in this location. What syrprised me the most is how well they sounded from outside the room they were in. Highly recommended to anyone interested in improving the sound of your PC or laptop. Great investment and would buy a second pair for my computer.

The speakers came packaged VERY well and with white linen gloves to handle the speakers without getting prints all over them. All necessary cables were included as well (which I didn't expect), so now I have an extra RCA to 3.5mm cable.

I assumed the speakers would require a "breaking in" period, there was no paperwork of any kind in the packaging so I couldn't be sure. I let the speakers play at a moderate volume on a mix of music for 36 straight hours. I didn't mess with the EQ or judg the sound quality until AFTER that period.

These speakers sound amazing. The bass was initially a little much for me so I turned down that with the EQ knob on the side. They look great, amazing build quality, they sound very clear and balanced. Movies and PC Games sounds VERY nice. Explosions are loud and the bass is enough to really make you "feel" it while at my computer desk.

These things can get really loud if you need them to. I've never turned them up past 75% and that was with 15 people in my house for a party.

I also use these as studio monitors for vocal tracks and acoustic guitar and they REALLY bring out the nuance in the sound. I'm able to really tweak and shape sounds far better than I ever was able to before using my $130 headset of another popular studio/enthusiast brand. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I initially planned on adding a woofer to this setup but they have plenty of bass on their own.

Best money I've spent in a long time on audio gear.

These are a pretty nice media speaker. They don't boom in the bass department, but you really shouldn't expect them to at this price and driver size.

What they do well: Classical music. Acoustic recordings. Voices.

What they don't do well: Bass.

Definitely good value. Also, they do come with screens, which look much better than the molded plastic face in the pictures.

Talk about bang for your buck! I am very impressed by these Swan speakers, which produce incredible sound in a small package. This was absolutely the right purchase for 134.00 bucks.

Great set of speakers! they are very stylish and sound very good for the price!.. you can compare it to $300+ priced systems. They come neatly packed in their individual pouches and it comes with a miniature pair of gloves so you don't damage the speakers while installing them. they can generate a lot of vibrations specially if they are sitting on a desk so I would recommend getting isolation pads, putting some neoprene or some isolation fabric under them.. other than that it is a great set of speakers they sound great and completely met my expectations. Also shipping was fast and communication was just in the sweet spot. Kudos AudioInsider!
