The new high value powered Swan speaker

Swan established the affordable studio monitor as a popular alternative for high-end desktop and computer sound and hundreds of thousands of active Swan desktop speakers have been sold to enthusiasts and gamers worldwide. The fourth generation D1080 IV might just be the best value yet in a full-sized desktop/studio monitor. Big, long-throw 5.25" woofers extend bass response and add loudness... and of all the 5.25" woofered powered Swan models, the D1080 IV is also lowest in cost.  This is the Swan model for maximum output at minimal cost.

New design elements and technologies mean great performance

With all Swans has learned about making extreme-value active speakers, D1080 IV raises the value bar all over again with new new styling, new electronics, and three times the power of the original. The D1080 IV's powerful midwoofers feature oversized shielded motors and critically-damped paper-hybrid cones with linear long-throw suspensions. Genuine 25mm/1" soft dome tweeters and conservatively-rated, powerful "gainclone"-style, chipset amplification adds up to an affordable desktop speaker system that doesn't sound like an cheap one. Lots of clean power really fill a room or studio.

Easy to setup and enjoy nearly anywhere

Like the rightly famous Swan M200 series, the full-sized D1080 IV is a stereo 2.0 system with one active speaker containing both channels of stereo amplification and a slave speaker connected by a length of cable. Stereo line-level inputs connect the master speaker to any signal source from portable digital music source to gaming system to PC to CD or DVD player. Volume, bass, and treble controls control level and tonal balance, and the system powers up with a simple linecord.

True 25mm / 1" soft dome tweeters for best sound

Long-throw woofers are driven by three times the power of the original D1080MkII

The D1080 IV is the latest in this popular series of Swan high value active desktop speakers. Like the original D1080, it's finished in Black PVC over real wood construction and features a slot-loaded rear bass reflex port for surprisingly deep and powerful bass.

At well under $199 the pair, the D1080 IV is the next big thing in active speakers. Don't compare them to "multimedia" speakers. Compare them to music.

Swan Active Desktop speaker technology

From the entry-level M10 to the top T200b studio monitor, the Swan name has been associated with top audio performance for desktop or studio, while The Audio Insider is known for providing great sound with Internet-direct value. Every Swan Active Desktop loudspeaker system incorporates the highest grade components, design, and value in their category. Count on Swan for a number of important design features that all add up to a superior listening experience...for less!

Substantial size

Acoustical physics simply state that a larger speaker has better efficiency and bass response. Dollar for dollar, Swan Active Desktop speakers are substantial, solid designs - check dimensions and weights to see just how much speaker your money buys...and then compare to anything on the market.

Regardless of price, all multi-way Swan Active Desktop speakers use high performance soft dome tweeters with Neodymium motors. The top T200b employs 28mm Danish-style tweeters with German-made silk domes, while the M200 series models and D1080 series models feature 25mm soft fabric tweeters. Even the economical M10 and D1010IV have 20mm soft dome tweeters. Every Swan speaker in the multi-way category shares similar high frequency treble performance to Swan's Diva home theater speaker offerings.

Midbass / Woofers

Excluding the Swan M10, D1010IV and all fullrange models such as the H2, nearly all Swan Active Desktop loudspeakers use beefy 5.25" woofers - unlike competitors, Swan doesn't use 3", 4", or even 4.5" "woofers" in anything except the very smallest models or in satellite speakers supported by bass systems. Combined with each multi-way model's larger size, you get deep, low-distortion bass, while the excellent sensitivity of a larger system means Swan can employ higher quality, conservatively rated internal amplifiers.

Swan uses very high quality amplifiers and on-board electronics to deliver the clean, clear, musical sound Swan owners have come to depend on. Remarkably, Swan has included renowned audiophile-grade "gainclone" chipset amplification in its powered models, a technology known around the world for some of the most transparent, musically-authentic sound possible ... even in the high end of premium performance home audio amplifiers. Swan is constantly refining their electronics sets so many models are in their second, third, or even fourth generation. See individual product pages in this section for more information and photographs.

Most of the models in the Swan Active Desktop class use substantial enclosures weighing much more than anything in their price class. The M200 series are double-side wall construction, while the top T200b uses a mill-cut aluminum baffle overlay on top of polished black lacquer. The M200MkIII even includes solid milled laminate side planks for a look and value unique in its class.

After over a year spent with the Swan D1080 IVs I think I should give a review. After the appropriate burn in time (50+ hours) the sound they produce is crisp, detailed, punchy, and above all musical. Of course they sound their best with well mastered dynamic audio since the better the speakers the worse dynamically compressed (flat) audio sounds. As a result I've probably listened to more music in the past few months with the D1080 IVs than the past 10 years with headphones. They're that engaging. The best bang for your buck desktop speakers out there and highly recommended.

Overall I very much liked the Swans, my only complaint is that when they arrived the left speaker's tweeter emitted a loud annoying buzzing sound when ever I played anything with just sound in general. However after a week the buzzing just abruptly stopped. So minus one star for the buzzing but overall very nice product.
