Dynamic Swan Diva styling and sound for the desktop

The high-output Swan M50W 2.1 channel system offers enthusiasts another breakthrough value in an affordable 2.1 channel desktop format. With a high-energy subwoofer and lots of onboard power, the Swan M50W pushes performance audio to a new low price and a great new look and sound.

The most popular Swan 2.1 channel system since the Swan M10

Like the very popular but smaller M10, the Swan M50W is a stereo 2.1 channel system. The M50W's two satellite speakers each use a genuine 20mm aluminum alloy dome tweeter for the fabulous high frequency performance Swan is known for, and a 3.5" midwoofer with oversized shielded motor and critically-damped paper-hybrid cone for excellent midrange and midbass. The M50W has a powerful long-throw subwoofer containing amplifiers that power all three speakers. Stereo line-level inputs connect the master speaker to almost any signal source. The M50W's clean, ample, conservatively-rated internal amplification means that the M50W doesn't sound like any other "multimedia" speaker.

Easy and fun to use, plus they look great

The M50W shares style and performance with the leading Swan Diva home theater systems, and all three modules have polished Diva Piano Black top and bottom caps plus bentwood enclosures. A stylish, black-anodized aluminum desktop volume control houses Internal 2-stage LED illumination that glows red or blue depending on system status - tap the desktop control for on and tap again for off. The Swan M50W system powers up with a simple detachable linecord, and your choice of two included input cables connect this system to virtually any line-level output ... from personal portable audio device to computer to A/V system to gaming rig.

The M50W's illuminated aluminum desktop volume control

True 20mm / 3/4-inch aluminum dome tweeters for clear, crisp sound

90mm / 3.5" midwoofers for excellent midrange and midbass performance

Powerful, long-throw, mass-loaded 6.5" woofer energizes the M50W subwoofer

The twenty-five pound M50W is the latest in popular Swan 2.1 channel systems. It comes finished in Swan Diva-style bentwood and simulated rosewood finish over real wood construction. At well under $300 for the entire system, the M50W is a big step up from just about any 2.1 channel multimedia system, plus the compact size of the satellites means they fit nearly anywhere.

Swan Active Desktop speaker technology

From the entry-level M10 to the top T200b studio monitor, the Swan name has been associated with top audio performance for desktop or studio, while The Audio Insider is known for providing great sound with Internet-direct value. Every Swan Active Desktop loudspeaker system incorporates the highest grade components, design, and value in their category. Count on Swan for a number of important design features that all add up to a superior listening experience...for less!

Substantial size

Acoustical physics simply state that a larger speaker has better efficiency and bass response. Dollar for dollar, Swan Active Desktop speakers are substantial, solid designs - check dimensions and weights to see just how much speaker your money buys...and then compare to anything on the market.

Tweeters

Regardless of price, all multi-way Swan Active Desktop speakers use high performance soft dome tweeters with Neodymium motors. The top T200b employs 28mm Danish-style tweeters with German-made silk domes, while the M200 series models and D1080 series models feature 25mm soft fabric tweeters. Even the economical M10 and D1010IV have 20mm soft dome tweeters. Every Swan speaker in the multi-way category shares similar high frequency treble performance to Swan's Diva home theater speaker offerings.

Midbass / Woofers

Excluding the Swan M10, D1010IV and all fullrange models such as the H2, nearly all Swan Active Desktop loudspeakers use beefy 5.25" woofers - unlike competitors, Swan doesn't use 3", 4", or even 4.5" "woofers" in anything except the very smallest models or in satellite speakers supported by bass systems. Combined with each multi-way model's larger size, you get deep, low-distortion bass, while the excellent sensitivity of a larger system means Swan can employ higher quality, conservatively rated internal amplifiers.

Amplification

Swan uses very high quality amplifiers and on-board electronics to deliver the clean, clear, musical sound Swan owners have come to depend on. Remarkably, Swan has included renowned audiophile-grade "gainclone" chipset amplification in its powered models, a technology known around the world for some of the most transparent, musically-authentic sound possible ... even in the high end of premium performance home audio amplifiers. Swan is constantly refining their electronics sets so many models are in their second, third, or even fourth generation. See individual product pages in this section for more information and photographs.

Cabinets

Most of the models in the Swan Active Desktop class use substantial enclosures weighing much more than anything in their price class. The M200 series are double-side wall construction, while the top T200b uses a mill-cut aluminum baffle overlay on top of polished black lacquer. The M200MkIII even includes solid milled laminate side planks for a look and value unique in its class.

I bought the Swan M50W's for my computer desktop. For what they do, they are amazing. They get plenty of volume (enough so that my entire house was shaking) and they are extremely easy to set up. They have very clear sound, although they seem somewhat veiled (like some Sennheiser headphones) with nice, tight and punchy bass. Treble isn't piercing and vocals positively shine on the M50W's. There was a mix up in my shipping order (I paid for 2 day shipping, it arrived after 4 days) but The Audio Insider's Jon was very helpful and cooperative and provided me with a refund on my 2 day shipping. If these ever fail to work I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another set from The Audio Insider.

The speakers came double boxed and very well packaged. The sound is great for a variety of uses, but music is where it truly shines. What really impressed me about these speakers is how well the subwoofer is in tune with satellites. Crisp highs, detailed midrange and very tight and punchy lows.

I had been looking for some computer speakers for a while since my very old set of Harmon Kardon speakers finally failed. I did not want to spend a lot of money but at the same time when I listen to music I like the sound to be crisp, clean, and clear with good bass support. I am a big fan of Bose speakers, even though I agree they typically are overpriced, but when compared often with speakers in their range the others don't even come close. I listed to Bose Companion 2 and 20 series and the 20's sounded much better but the price differential was astonishing, from $100 to $249 and I decided to see what else would be out there in the $300 range with a subwoofer separate. This was a tough product to find on the internet and it basically came down to these Swan M50w 2:1 speakers and the M Audio Av-40 which were about half as much though without a subwoofer. This was a tough choice for a variety of reason since I was only going off of people's reviews as I could not locate either of these in any stores to listen to them. Obviously I went with the Swan M50's.

First, they came delivered in less than one week, ordered on a Sunday, received on a Saturday. NO special shipping. Second, they were packaged well with an outer shipping box around the speaker box inside. Inside the speaker box they were packed and protected well and each piece wrapped in its own separate cloth bag. It even came with a pair of white gloves. This was no illusion though, it was obvious this manufacturing company cares about the products it makes. Third, everything was actually in the box which in today's world doesn't always happen. Fourth, after unpacking they were extremely easy to set up. Fifth, these are NOT computer speakers, They are a great sounding small audio speaker system modified for computers. What I mean by this is I am happy I listened to the reviews and bought these as they were well worth the investment. the sound is incredible and I don't even have them set up properly yet as I am moving in about two weeks. These speakers are so good I now almost daily listen to music while doing things on my computer which I was not doing prior. Are they going to be able to act as an audio system for your house, no. But small parties in medium size rooms these are more than adequate and will blow people away. If you are leery as I wa son buying on recommendations of others without listening, Audio Insider has a guarantee to help soothe your apprehension. I say jump in with both feet as this sound for computer speakers is amazing. I can't wait til I get them set up properly in our future house, wherever that may be. This is definitely a purchase worth its money spent. Thanks Audio Insider!

It's an upgrade from the Klipsch 2.1 I had. I think the bass is tighter and the highs are less piercing. It has a slightly warmer sound then the Klipsch did. Also the little sound controller thing looks cool and works well.

Best Speakers I've owned so far. Music is crisp and clear. Bass is much improved over my other 2.1 system. Vocals come in so much more defined. Definitely audiophile qaulity for a reasonable price.

Used to own Logitec X-540. After many years of serving me good they're starting to degrade very slowly - so I was up for some new speakers. Didn't need 5.1 but I'm rather picky about products. The least I can say is, I'm fully satisfied with these! In fact they perform better than anticipated. I can't wait until they're loosened up! Would definitely recommend these.

The Swan M-50 is one of the best active desk top 2.1 speaker systems available at this price. The finish is very attractive, and the sound is absolutely remarkable. When they are connected to the Fiio E-17 or the Grant dac-11 the music becomes spacious, with excellent bass. If you allow these speakers time to break in, listening will be a pleasure.

Excellent near-field speakers, these are turning out to be everything I wanted: a nice, attractive 2.1 set, with good shielding (i.e no GSM hum when my iPhone is near), an outboard volume control, and above all, excellent sound. For this price range, and my requirements, I don't think I could have done better. They were shipped promptly, too.

I love these speakers. It doesn't matter if you listen to Hip-hop, Rock, EDM, Baroque, Jazz.. every high, mid, and low note is clearly heard. The volume adjuster looks amazing. This setup is pure ecstasy for any audiophile.

$300.00 well spent! At this price point you won't find a better 2.1 desktop setup. Good imaging, detail, and overall great sound. These speakers far exceeded my expectations.

First off, would I recommend this speaker system? ABSOLUTELY.

MY SETUP:

Xonar Essence STX (EQ set to flat with no other enhancements)
Speakers located on the sides of my monitor, sitting on MoPads.
Sub located under the desk

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS OF THE SOUND:

Coming from a 5.1 Logitech speaker system, the first thing I noticed was the amazing clarity and detail of these speakers. The highs are crystal clear and the mids are deep, yet well balanced; never. The highs are very present, but never screechy.

I found it hard to conceive, when I first read the reviews for this system, that people were hearing sounds coming from these speakers that theyíve never heard before. I can attest that those people were telling the truth! Listening to classical music, I can hear not only noticeably more detail and accuracy, but actual instruments I never heard when using the Logitech system. I can ever hear singers inhaling air before singing.

The subwoofer is simply astounding. Itís a modest 6.5Ē driver (the same as the sub I had with the Logitech system), but the bass it puts out is, quite frankly, amazing. I have it set to about 30% and I can feel the bass hits through the far wall in my room while in the adjacent room. It can go very deep, but it isnít boomy or muddy at all; itís very controlled. Iím sure if I set it to 100%, my parents would be upset, and theyíre on the other side of the house.

In near field listening, this system can definitely play loud enough to be uncomfortable when needed to.

THE SUBWOOFER:

The heatsink on the back of the sub does get warm to the touch, but not hot enough to burn my hand. Yes, the controller for the subwoofer is located on the back of the subwoofer itself, not on the control dial that goes on your desk. Is this a bad thing? In my opinion, no. When I first set up the system, it took a little time to find my sweet spot for the sub. Once I found it, Iíve havenít had the need to crawl under my desk to adjust it again.

It is surprising heavy for its compact size. Too a little muscle to lift it out of the box.

AESTHETICS AND PACKAGING:

Iím sure Iím not the only one that loved that wood finish at first sight. Itís beautiful. The glossy piano black finish adds a nice accent.

The system comes double boxed Ė the system is pack in a nice cardboard box with a corrugated cardboard outer box. The speakers are housed a fitted styrofoam, with no play/space whatsoever. I couldnít feel any movement from inside the box when I was moving it around.

For Essence STX owners: youíll need to buy a 3.5mm stereo to male RCA cable (or just use the adapter that comes with the STX card itself). The system only comes with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to hook into your soundcard.

QUALMS:

I do have a few criticisms with this system, but theyíre more along the lines of nitpicking.

The desktop controller, while very slick, isnít by any means perfect. The dial itself gives no indication at all as to how loud the speakers are set. The only way youíll know is if you play something back. So youíll often times find yourself lowering the volume way low whenever you unmute the system just to prevent a possible blast of sound from coming out of the speakers. It does have a nice weight to it (along with a non-slip finish on the bottom), so it wonít be slipping around when youíre adjusting the volume.

There is a slight hiss that comes out of the tweeters when nothing is being played back. It is by no means intrusive, in my opinion, and doesnít disturb my sleep at all. I literally need to place my ear about an inch from the tweeters to hear it.

Would I buy this system again. DEFINITELY! I canít recommend it enough.

I have had my M50W's for a few months now, and I love them. I was waffling between the M10's and these, and I must say I am glad I made the step up to the bigger system.

Don't get me wrong, the M10's are incredible even before you consider the price and small size, I just appreciate the extra power. (I have a couple of friends with M10's) The other feature that I really appreciate is the remote volume knob, which makes it much more convenient to adjust the system volume than having the knob on the woofer unit. For $279 ($313.90 shipped), you truly can't beat this quality. The sound is phenominal. I can't understand why anyone would consider something like a Logitech 2.1 system when this is out there. It truly must just be an issue of visibility. I replaced my Altec Lansing 2.1 FX4021 speakers with the M50W's and cannot believe that a few years ago, I paid a similar price for the Altecs. The Swans are in a whole different league.

Really do love these speakers! They sounded a bit closed when I got them but they opened up as they broke in. Been happily listening to them for months now! My only real complaint is that the bass knob is hard to get adjusted /just/ right. Just a hair in either direction either leaves you with either not enough bass or really boomy bass. I'm not going to knock the speakers for this because it could very well be attributed to my room acoustics as easily. Overall, extremely happy! Would definitely recommend to friends!

Having owned several large midrange speaker systems ranging from 150 to 1300 watts (klipsch, altec, harman...) I decided I wanted something powerful and fairly compact for gaming/movies/music on my PC. These speakers are quite powerful for their size and look amazing. My only complaint would be that while off (main power on, controller set to off) they have a noticeable hissing noise. The speakers are in my bedroom and I can clearly hear them at night. This probably wouldn't be an issue in an office, but for a high quality speaker system this is something that just shouldn't happen.

Absolutely love these speakers. They sound amazing, and even at full volume they sound crystal clear. Also love the looks of them and the quality. The only reason I gave them a 4 star rating instead of 5, is they don't go as loud as I would have liked. But for a small room these are great! Also the bass from the sub is just right for the kind of music I listen to, which is mostly alternative, hard rock. I also game with these speakers and I have to say I can hear things in my games that I couldn't hear before. If you're looking to buy these speakers and you don't need them to go super loud, then definitely get them. Most people will probably find them more than loud enough for every day use.

Truly a fantastic product. There is a break in period before the speakers truly sounded their best, but even at that, it is impossible not to notice the clarity of the system. Three days after receiving my setup, I am having a hard time leaving my pc to do things other than listen to music.

These speakers sound good and tight.

BUT, the speakers have an annoying hum when they are turned on and idling. I would wish that the electronics were better designed so that the amplifiers would shut down when the remote control turns the speakers off or there is no media driving the speakers.

I guess I will need to somehow power off the speakers where I am not using them. :(

I recently ordered Corsair's Sp 2500 2.1 PC desktop speaker set after, I thought, a thorough search for a quality set of speakers for our computer desk ... fortunately they were not in stock and I was offered a chance to cancel the order. That opportunity afforded me the chance to search a little more and that is when I came across the Audio Insider website and the wonderful Swan M50W.
The Swan M50W is simply, by far and away, the best looking desktop speaker set that I'd come across. They are beautifully designed and look great.
The sub, if you can afford the space on top of your desk, should go there for two reasons: (1) visual appeal, and (2) easy access to the power switch located in back on the left side. I have the sub located on the far right rear corner of our (5ft. wide) desk facing the left corner inside a (3ft. wide) shelving unit. This not only affords the low bass notes to bounce off something - which is important - but makes the power switch nice and accessible.
How does the sub sound? Good. I've been transferring my CD collection to iTunes the past few days, and although I don't listen to my downtempo, dub, and drum-n-bass music as much as I used to, I have an extensive collection, and as a result, I can assure anyone considering the Swan M50W that the sub (75watts/38HZ-120HZ) is fine. It's probably not as loud as the Corsair Sp2500 (120watts/35HZ), but it goes almost as low. Bass tones below the mid 30's ... well, they're not there and you won't find a desktop unit that will provide them. I have the sub's volume control set at about 60-70% ... There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between when the sub comes into play at about 20% and 100%.
How about the satellites? Very good :-) Opera music is my new passion, and the vocals and symphonic accompaniment coming through the Swan M50W's satellites are crystal clear. My wife enjoys Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban - two artists with wonderful voices accompanied by a variety of instruments - and this music afforded me another perspective for evaluating the satellites: again, superb sound.
The Swan M50W's power (75w+18w+18W), while only about one half of the Corsair SP 2500, is more than adequate. I can easily turn the volume up to where it becomes uncomfortable. The volume control ... hmmm....
The volume control is an attractive addition to one's desktop, but - one can never be sure where the volume is set at ... for instance - what is half way to full volume? what is 1/8 volume? ... difficult to describe.
What else? Here's some useful info I was not able to obtain anywhere until the M50W arrived at our home: speaker cables 80" ( just enough - phew !) ... 3.5mm cable 80" ... power cable 36" ... remote volume control 82" ... sub measures 11.25"wide, 12.9" deep, 9.9" high.
PCHCables.com offers a nice 3.5mm cable for an affordable upgrade (gold plated connectors and heavy duty appearence). I ordered one of these before I learned about DATs. I've since added the HRT Music Streamer II to compliment the Swan unit. Swan, or any other maker of fine, quality audio components can't make up for the sound deficiencies inherent in compressed audio source material. At about $150, the HRT unit was a reasonable upgrade that compliments and enhances the sound quality produced by the M50W. Mediabridge Products offer nice cables to accommodate this set up.
All in all, we now have an excellent sounding and very attractive set of audio components on our computer desk thanks to Swan Audio and The Audio Insider.

Very high quality, can get very loud to my tastes, there is some buzzing when the mini-jack that goes into the computer is moved around, but I suspect that is a problem with the computer, not with the mini-jack provided. Pretty easy five stars.

I bought this product a few months ago and I'm very pleased with the sound that comes out of these babies!.
I've been using these speakers without a DAC and even then, the sound is very crystal clear. Long story short, these speakers are worth every single penny. If you're looking for a system with a subwoofer under the 400 dlls price range, these are it! These speakers deliver "amazing" sound for the price. I do not regret this purchase and I would recommend these speakers to anyone on a budget that wants a good 2.1 system on the cheap!

Excellent set of high-end 2.1 speakers. Only negative thing about these speakers is you really need to place them at least 36" apart for them to sound good if your strapped for space. Anything closer than that and the imaging is "off".

I just received both the M50W and the M200MKIII's. I first set up the M50W. They sounded great. I listened to several genres of music and everything sounded sharp and clear. I then plugged in the M200MkIII and they blew me away. Every sound just popped out of the speakers. They both have excellent sound but I think I will keep the M200MkIIIs.
